In this practical workshop, we’ll explore how to choose the right gear, settings, and shooting techniques for different wildlife situations. We’ll cover autofocus and subject detection, shutter speed, aperture, ISO, exposure, and how to adapt when light, movement, or backgrounds don’t cooperate. You’ll also learn strategies for finding wildlife, positioning yourself, anticipating behavior, and making the most of fleeting opportunities. Through real-world examples and images from my own field experiences, I’ll share what works, what doesn’t, and the lessons I’ve learned along the way. Whether you’re photographing birds in your backyard or wildlife on your next adventure, you’ll leave with practical tools and strategies to create sharper, more intentional, and compelling images.

Through striking macro photography, and intimate glimpses of wildlife and landscapes, Emilie captures moments of stunning beauty—wood ducks gliding across glassy dawn waters, bobcats wandering along stone walls, red efts sheltering beneath fallen leaves, and the thunderous rush of White Mountain waterfalls. This exhibit celebrates nature in all its forms—quiet, dramatic, and beautifully unpredictable—inviting you to step fully into the wild. The exhibit will run September through October at Tin Mountain Conservation Center (https://tinmountain.org)
Hunt’s Photo Walk: Bugs in the Field with Emilie Talpin, Lincoln NH
Join Hunt’s Photo Educator Emily Hojnowski and guest photographer Emilie Talpin photographing BUGS in the field! On this workshop, attendees will be hand held, photographing close-up (macro) with an emphasis on bugs as we work our way along a gardened street in Lincoln, NH.
Attendees should have a camera and macro lens, but would also benefit from having a flash/speedlight for this workshop, as well as a flash diffuser. If you don’t have a flash or diffuser, we sell them at Hunt’s Photo and some are available to rent. Feel free to reach out to us at classes@huntsphoto.com if you have questions. They will give you a brief overview of what macro photography entails. Then, we will learn to focus stack and bracket your shots to help you get better results.
